**Dönme tezi**, [Osman Beyliği'nin](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Osmanl%C4%B1_%C4%B0mparatorlu%C4%9Fu_kurulu%C5%9F_d%C3%B6nemi) ortaya çıkışını ve özellikle [Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun kuruluş](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Osmanl%C4%B1_%C4%B0mparatorlu%C4%9Fu_kurulu%C5%9F_d%C3%B6nemi) ve [yükselme](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Osmanl%C4%B1_%C4%B0mparatorlu%C4%9Fu_y%C3%BCkselme_d%C3%B6nemi) dönemindeki başarılarını, [meritokrasi](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Meritokrasi) politikasıyla birleştirilmiş tüm sınıflardan yerel [dönmelerin](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Dinden_%C3%A7%C4%B1kma) başarılı entegrasyonu ile açıklar.[^1]

Önemli bir dönmeliğin ilk örneği [Köse Mihal'dir](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/K%C3%B6se_Mihal) ve [Stephan Gerlach](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Stephan_Gerlach) günlüğünde bu süre zarfında önde gelen [Fransız](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Frans%C4%B1zlar), [İtalyan](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/%C4%B0talyanlar), [İspanyol](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/%C4%B0spanyollar) ve [Macar](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Macarlar) soylularının sık sık Türk dönmeleri haline geldiğini anlatır.[^2]
