[*Bin Bir Gece Masalları*](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Binbir_Gece_Masallar%C4%B1)nı Avrupa'da ilk çeviren kişidir. Fransızcada: *Les mille et une nuits* ismini vermiştir. 1704 ila 1717 arasında on iki ciltte çıkmış, Avrupa edebiyatına [İslam dünyası](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/%C4%B0slam_d%C3%BCnyas%C4%B1)nın etkisini ilerletmiştir.

Galland, [Rollot](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Rollot), [Picardy](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Picardy)'de doğdu. [Yunanca](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Yunanca) ve [Latince](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Latince) öğrendi. 1670'te İstanbul'daki Fransız Elçiliği'nde görev aldı. 1673'te [Suriye](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Suriye) civarına gezilerde bulundu, tarihi evrak ve anıtlara şahit oldu. Fransız Doğu Hindistan Şirketi'nin [Osmanlı Devleti](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Osmanl%C4%B1_%C4%B0mparatorlu%C4%9Fu)'nin Arap bölgelerindeki işlerine yardımcı oldu ve [Türkçe](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/T%C3%BCrk%C3%A7e), [Farsça](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Fars%C3%A7a) ve [Arapça](https://turkipedia.org/tr/wiki/Arap%C3%A7a) öğrendi. Paroles remarquables, bons mots et maximes des orientaux, De l'origine et du progrès du café, \*Contes et fables indiennes de Bidpai et de Lokrnan, Histoire générale des empereurs Turcs (*Genel Türk Tarihi*) adlı önemli yayınların sahibidir.[^1]
